A little bit of this, and a whole lotta that.

Psych screencaps/'graphics' with additional nerdiness in the mix, mainly: Star Trek TNG, Doctor Who, The X-Files, and puppies. Because PUPPIES.

I care. I wish to hear all about the time you met the absolutely gorgeous and wondrous man that is LeVar Burton.

Aw, you are awesome, thank you for indulging my nerdiness!! :)

Basically, my friend and I had never been to a con or anything like that before, but we decided to go to the Star Trek convention in Boston a couple weeks ago. Being totally new to all of this, we barely knew where to go or what to do. So we were walking by the convention center, totally confused as to how to get in. We were way late, but I guess we just thought it would be more immediately apparent where to go. We walked up the street, beyond the main entrance to the convention center, and as we get more confused all of a sudden my friend stops in her tracks and whispers ‘omg, that’s LeVar Burton!!’ We’d just passed by a dude sitting on a stoop, reading and drinking coffee.

My friend and I then had what I later realized was a total ‘Shawn and Gus’ a la Psych moment, where they huddle together whisper-arguing frantically, in a totally obvious manner, but don’t realize how obvious they are. So we are panicking about whether we should go say hi, because OMG IT IS LEVAR BURTON THE MAN WHO TAUGHT US HOW TO READ AND IS AMAZING but also we don’t want to be obnoxious and interrupt him and—at this point I see my friend start waving meekly in his direction. Turns out, LeVar noticed us and waved. :)

Since he was nice enough to acknowledge our dorky selves, we went over and talked with him. He was so lovely and funny and nice. He teased us about being confused as to where to go (because the name of the convention center is huge, which he pointed out to us, lol). He then told us he’d show us the way, and took us inside, chatting with us the entire time! We even got to tell him about our jobs and he was complimentary about our careers (HOLY SHIT I DIED, LEVAR BURTON APPROVES OF MY LIFE CHOICES).

So yes. That is overall the story. We actually had a photo op with him the next day and he REMEMBERED US and remembered our names and gave us hugs and we died all over again.

In conclusion: Levar Burton is as kind, awesome, and funny as you’d imagine he would be. The whole thing was so ridiculous and fantastic. I’m glad I was with my bff or else I don’t think I would believe it actually happened! :)

THE END. Thanks again for indulging me. :D

I forgot about this, but back during Christmas Break, I put Star Trek in front of my cat to see what he would do. To my surprise, he actually did watch it. However, he only seemed mildly entertained - that is, until Scotty started talking. Then my cat actually paused the episode and stared at him. He just stared at Scotty and wouldn’t let me press play for, like, four or five minutes. After that, he watched for a while, but gradually lost interest and started dozing, only looking up when he heard Scotty’s voice.

Can someone please explain to me why my cat loves Scotty so much? Was James Doohan secretly some sort of magical cat whisperer? What is this?

  1. push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise.

    2. push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable.

    3. erase processed food from your diet. start with no lollies, chips, biscuits, then erase pasta, rice, cereal, then bread. use the rule that if a child couldn’t identify what was in it, you don’t eat it.

    4. get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else.

    5. stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything.

    6. buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice.

    7. buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small.

    8. strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full.

    9. organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle.

    10. have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck.

    11. push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog.

    12. message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through.

    14. think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything.

    15. become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends.

    16. lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.
